The Movie Itself is directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (known for “Mortal Kombat” and “AVP: Alien vs. Predator“. Jensen Ames (Jason Statham), having been framed for the murder of his wife, is now known as “Frankenstein” at Terminal Island. Terminal Island is a place where cons race for their lives in a series of five events. The end result if you’re the winner? freedom. Jensen soon finds himself involved in these events after Warden Hennessey (Joan Allen) tells him that he must compete if he ever wants to see his daughter again. Now it’s up to Jensen to fight the Island’s most dangerous criminal Machine Gun Joe (Tyrese Gibson) if he wants out of the Island alive. What results is 2 hours you won’t regret investing but probably something you won’t want to see again anytime soon.

The initial aspect that I feel audiences need to know about a movie like “Death Race” is that in no way shape or form is this a good movie. There are numerous problems with the film. Whether it be dialogue or simply the plot, “Death Race” falters in a lot of areas. But still there is something that is enjoyable about the movie that makes the viewer not feel like they wasted their time by watching the movie. Perhaps it’s the awesome stunt sequences. But I feel it more revolves around Joan Allen, who plays a convincing villain, and Statham, who always seems to have that charisma and style that draws me into his characters. Allen and Statham play off each other well. I haven’t seen many roles where Allen plays a villain (with the possible exception of “The Bourne Supremacy” but she eventually turns face), so I was pleased that she performed so well.
